The first time I heard the name “David Schnaufer” was in Chicago in 2007. It barely registered in my mind.
My husband is the serious amateur musician in our family, and he has broad tastes in music. When we lived in Chicago, he would periodically search Youtube for interesting music.
One evening he hollered over at me, “Hey, look at this. There’s a tribute concert at Vanderbilt University for some guy named David Schnaufer. Listen to this dulcimer music….” I was busy in the middle of another writing project and only had a vague idea that maybe Vanderbilt was in Nashville. I had no idea what a dulcimer was, so I humored him with an “Oh, nice. . . . “ as I kept walking.
